About Me.

Hi! My name is Alex, I’m a Technical and Gameplay Designer.

I have a degree in computer science and I've recentely graduated in Game Design from a game design academy (Digital Bros Game Acacdemy, in Milan).

AS A TECH DESIGNER... I work as bridge between designers and programmers, understanding both their needs, identifying optimal solutions and proposing algorithms and ideas that would translate design needs in implementable solutions.

My objective is to prototype fast and give everyone the tool they need to playtest, as I strongly believe in importance of an hands-down, iterative and holistic approach to development.

I’ve always been in love with the videogame medium and I firmly believe in the positive impact it can have in our lives.

I’m also comfortable with working with codebases, I can learn and adapt fast. I use this knowledge to expand functionalities and share with other team members how to use game objects and tools.

AS A GAME DESIGNER... I aim (and love!) to design dynamics that can create engaging and memorable play experiences by balancing challenge, creativity, and fun. I love when games make me think and interact with their mechanics in a way that create unique and pleasurable dynamics. I want to empower the player expression and develop games as “the art of agency”.

I strongly believe that games are designed through playing. They don’t just exist as ideas in our mind, ideas are abstract, intagible. Games are crystallizations of interesting interactions: they should be should be actively discovered by playing them, following a "playable first" approach, an iterative and holistic process, because only by playing your game you begin to really understand it and its possibilities.

I love working with:
  • Engines (Unreal and Unity mainly): for prototyping and playtesting ideas.

  • Documentation: I aim to write clean and effective documentation.

  • Spreadsheets and numbers: because good games are supported by “numbers with meaning”.

  • Good Peple.

I take pride in my strong work ethic, always striving to give my best effort in everything I do. I’m guided by strong moral values rooted in good faith and honesty. I also value constructive criticism, seeing it as an opportunity for growth and continuous improvement, both for myself and those around me.

Education

2023-2025

Academic Course in Game Design | Digital Bros Game Academy - Milan

Here, I learned the theory behind all aspects related to game design, including documentation, level, technical, gameplay and product design, but most importantly I learned how to work effectively in a team.

In fact, we developed many games as group projects (some of which you can find on this site), using an approach that mimicked that of real studious.

2019-2022

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science | University of Ferrara

During Uni I was able to lean the mathematical, theorical and practical basics of Computer Science. This helped me greatly to round out my professional figure.

I learned programming in C, Java, Python, JavaScript, Linear Algebra, Statistic, the basics of Machine Leaning and OS…

Outside of videogames....

I’m an avid player and master of Tabletop Role Playing Games.

I love immersing myself in fantastical worlds and live stories born from the players interaction.

I’ve felt the impact that role play games can have on our lives and I wish to cultivate and share this wonderful activity. Though RPG I’ve found friends, community, a chance to express myself and to experience how individual contributions intertwine into wonderful stories.

I’ve learned a lot from RPG:

  • I’ve learned about game design and the power of a good game.

  • I’ve learned about the true meaning of player agency and why it’s so important.

    • We are not telling stories, we are living and enjoying situations .

  • I’ve learned the expressive and emotional power of letting people freely intertwine their agency.

  • I’ve learned how games are defined by people.

I also love reading and I’ve also started editing and proofreading books and RPG manuals for my family and friends:

  • I started with my father’s books (Renato Gadda): L’albero dei ramocchi, La Farfalla senza Ali, Sfumature di Rosa, Filastrocche nel cestino, Le Radici del Buio.
